Welcome to a picture tour of Elim Village - a unique Christian retirement community. This is just a small group of the 500 residents that make Elim their home. One of four independent living condo buildings, the Atlin has a spectacular back yard. The boulevard in front of the Bowron flatters the building, especially in the fall. The Carmanah is only steps away from the pond garden. All buildings at Elim are surrounded by large areas of green space and gardens. The garden in the roundabout at the entrance to the Diamond changes with the seasons. The architectural features of the Emerald (assisted living building) give it an extra touch of class. Completed in the winter of 2009, the Harrison (residential care building) waits for its newly planted landscape to burst into bloom. Residents in the north duplexes enhance the village landscape with a personal touch of color. The landscape around the south duplexes has its own natural beauty. The lobbies in all the buildings, in this case the main lobby of the Carmanah, reflect welcoming warmth for everyone passing through. The living room feel of the DiamondÕs main lobby invites residents to linger for informal chats. Each of the HarrisonÕs eight neighbourhoods features a bright dining area. Those looking for a place of quiet reflection can relax in the chapel at the Harrison. The Emerald, Atlin, Bowron and Oasis each have a library that is maintained by volunteers. The Bowron and Diamond each have well equipped workshops with machinery that has been donated by residents who have moved into Elim. ElimÕs 15,000 square foot amenity building - the Oasis - is the heart of village social life. A unique water feature catches the eyes of guests coming into the main entrance at the Oasis. The main attraction of the Oasis at Elim is the 529-person capacity auditorium, a perfect venue for both casual and formal village-wide events. During weekdays, the Palms Bistro at the Oasis attracts residents and staff. Non-residents also frequent the popular bistro for breakfast, lunch or for gourmet coffee. Sometimes residents enjoy meeting over a cup of gourmet coffee or other treats at the Palms Bistro in the Oasis. Glowing fireplaces, a water feature, greenery, skylights and the large open space concept brings the outdoors inside, making the foyer feel likeÉan Oasis. Community life at Elim promotes active living, especially for the residents who participate in exercise classes twice a week. Some Emerald residents stay active by ÒKnitting for the NeedyÓ and in the process have become a tight-knit group of friends. The spiritual aspect of Elim displays itself in many ways. The choir practices hymns every week and sings at special occasions. Pastoral care is a critical element of life at Elim. Pastor Gordon shares a humourous moment with a resident. Since 2001, Elim residents have pooled their return-for-refund containers and raised over $10,000 for the Canadians Foodgrains Bank - a Christian response to world hunger. Every Canada Day, residents take a communal stroll through Elim grounds. Friendships form quickly as a strong sense of community draws residents together. A community united by faith - this is the strength of Elim Village. Thank you for taking this picture tour. The community of Elim Village welcomes you any time.
